Taken in the Musée des Eaux-de-Vie (i.e. just about every non-wine, non-beer liquor you can think of) in a small town in Alsace. While everyone else was enjoying free samples of the merchandise, I was having a photographic field day. Not sure offhand how many pictures I took in that time, but it was a lot. Many were just kind of boring shots to document all the many thousands of bottles of liquor that they had on display, but a number of shots were somewhat more experimental and interesting. This was one of the more experimental ones.
Not sure exactly how long, but the exposure for this shot was several seconds long, with a flash at 2/3 of full output at the beginning of the shot. From the moment the shutter opened to the moment it closed I was spinning the camera with the lens as the axis, and moving it linearly away from the bottles.
Like I said, I have a number of other photos like this, but I haven't decided if I'll post any of the others yet. (Though I may give in to popular demand, if it arises.) I also made a B&W version of this, and I like it as well, but I feel like it's more complete with color.
well, when i saw this pic i wanted to say something like "how appropriate". but they beat me to it. but i would like to know if those thoughts crossed your mind when you took it, or was the spinning completely random?
Heh, thanks. I'm glad the picture worked out like that, as it's half of what I was hoping to capture with it. Of course, the other half was just to experiment with my camera, which was also a success.
Yeah, I guess I had the same thought about this picture, though the thought hadn't quite been realized in words. ...First the tilted building picture, now this one... You must think the same way as my subconsious mind or something. Scary thought... (Now, is that more scary for me, or for you?)
I'm glad I was able to replicate that effect. You do know me too well indeed.
Having never been drunk, I wasn't sure if this effect was going to mimic it sufficiently, but apparently it does, so it looks like I win at life. But this was definitely during the drinking. (Although it was everyone else in the group that was doing the drinking, while I was wandering around all lonely-like, though thoroughly excited, amongst the bottle collection.)

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

The photonotes.org Dictionary of Film and Digital Photography is one place to stop and get it all answered. This is quite a valuable resource that explains in depth what a photography term means, and will help those understand who might not know what something is.

I agree that it looks better in colour than what I imagine it looks like in b/w.

overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position
I like the effect of the spinning and the swoosh. It pulls your eye into the picture.
